REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Our technicians are responsible for managing and directing client and patient flow through our hospital, from triage to treatment, through discharge and follow-up care. Our technicians are fulfilled by complete utilization of skills, and are highly valued for their knowledge and experience. As a teaching hospital, our technicians are heavily relied upon to support new and learning veterinarians.
The ideal candidate for this position would thrive in a fast-paced team environment, have an excellent attention to detail, and a passion for patient care. Applicants should have a desire to participate in the advancement of avian and exotic animal medicine, an enthusiasm for learning, and express a dedication to their patients and clients. As a dedicated member of the team, technicians should be ready to help others as needed, even outside of their normal role or position. Our goal is to find a member of the team who would be a permanent addition to our unconventional and exciting family.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be licensed as a RVT in Indiana
Must have full-time availability
Must be able to work some Saturdays
Must possess exceptional communication skills
Must be detail oriented
Must be able to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced work environment
Must be able to work as a team
Must be able to participate in some on-call shifts and/or overnights (additional compensation available)
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
RVT experience
Exotic companion animal and/or wildlife experience
Rabies vaccinated
DUTIES INCLUDE
Over-the-phone and in-person triage of potentially critical patients
Client education including husbandry of various species, discharge instructions, medical management, etc.
Medical terminology and scribing
Assist the DVM staff with appointments and perform technician appointments
Perform basic nursing care duties on hospitalized patients
Perform anesthesia on a variety of species
Perform in-house diagnostics such as blood work, radiographs, CT, etc.
Process pharmacy prescriptions
Perform advanced nursing care duties such as IV/IO catheters, intravenous fluid therapy, isolation ward protocols, gavage/tube feeding, SQ fluids on various species
Perform medical procedures under the direction of the veterinarians
Maintain hospitalization and treatments records for patients
Properly clean, prepare, and sterilize surgical areas, instruments, and equipment
